Reading this FAQ will give you a broader understanding of what to expect from our expeditions. Whether you're curious about travel logistics, safety, accommodations, or what to pack, this section provides essential insights.

Our expeditions are not typical vacations—they are challenging adventures designed for those who seek teamwork, discovery, and pushing personal limits. You'll experience diverse landscapes, different cultures, and unique road conditions, all while working together with your fellow travelers.

From pre-trip preparations to on-the-ground experiences, we’ve covered the most common questions to help you feel prepared and excited for the journey ahead!

Who Can Join the Expeditions?

Our expeditions are designed for adventurous individuals aged 14 (with a legal guardian) and up, with no upper limit, as long as you are comfortable with physical challenges and hardship. You should be:

  • Able to work as a team with people you may not know.

  • Open to new discoveries and cultural experiences.

  • Willing to adapt to varying levels of comfort and conditions.

What factors determine the number of travelers in each expedition?

Each expedition usually consists of 8-12 travelers, depending on:

  • The itinerary and logistical limits.

  • Accommodation availability.

  • Safety and security considerations.

How Will I Get in Touch with the Expedition Upon Arrival?

Before the expedition starts, we will create a WhatsApp group for all participants. This will serve as the main platform for communication, updates, and coordination.

  • You will receive a Letter of Visit before arrival, which includes details about your stay and the contact information of our duty officer.

  • Airport pickup will be arranged based on arrival times, ensuring a smooth transition to the gathering location.

Who Drives the Expedition Vehicles?

  • Professional Drivers: In some countries, we hire experienced local drivers for added security and navigation expertise.

  • Self-Driving Option: In certain expeditions, participants take turns driving the vehicles.

  • Test Drive Session: Before departure, all drivers undergo a practical test to assess skills and vehicle handling.

  • Road Safety Briefing: A mandatory session covers local traffic rules, road conditions, and driving culture.

  • Adaptation to Terrain: Drivers receive guidance on handling off-road conditions, sand driving, and challenging terrains.

Why Is Renting an Expedition Vehicle More Expensive Than Renting a Car at the Airport?

  • Specialized Vehicles: Unlike standard rentals, expedition vehicles are off-road capable, rugged, and maintained for long-distance, remote travel.

  • Limited Availability: In some countries, finding suitable expedition vehicles requires careful selection and negotiation.

  • Local Pricing Customs: Rental costs often involve bargaining, and online prices may not reflect real availability or necessary modifications.

  • Added Equipment & Maintenance: Expedition vehicles come equipped with essential gear (e.g., extra fuel tanks, recovery kits) and undergo thorough pre-trip inspections.

What Should I Expect in Terms of Road Conditions?

  • While main highways are paved, national parks and rural areas have dirt tracks, sand dunes, and rocky paths.

  • 4x4 vehicles and skilled drivers are required for many routes.

  • Travel times may be longer than expected due to unpredictable terrain.

How Is Fuel Availability Managed?

  • Fuel stops are planned in advance, with extra reserves carried when necessary.

  • Fuel costs may fluctuate based on terrain, vehicle type, and market prices.

What Clothing Should I Pack for the Expedition?

  • Limited access to laundry, so pack enough essentials.

  • A 23 kg large backpack and a 9 kg carry-on are typically sufficient.

  • Each expedition is unique, so the list of necessary items will be provided.

  • The list will be shared via the WhatsApp group before departure.

Can the Itinerary Be Customized?

  • Partial adjustments are possible based on traveler preferences and availability.

  • Major itinerary changes require advance planning.

Is It Safe to Travel Through Remote Regions?

  • Yes, but we take precautions:

  • Local knowledge and real-time security updates.

  • Local expert guides to handle unexpected situations.

  • Contingency planning for emergencies.

What Happens in Case of a Medical Emergency?

  • A 24-hour local liaison officer can coordinate emergency response.

  • We carry a well-equipped first aid kit and emergency communication devices.

  • Travel insurance with medical evacuation is required for all participants.

How Much Cash Should I Carry, and in What Currency?

  • The local currency depends on the country of expedition (e.g., West African CFA franc - XOF for Senegal, Namibian dollar - NAD for Namibia).

  • While credit cards work in major cities, cash is essential in remote areas.

  • It's advisable to carry a mix of local currency, euros, or U.S. dollars, as exchange rates vary. ATMs may not always be available outside urban centers.

Is There Internet or Mobile Network Coverage?

  • Major cities and towns have reliable mobile and internet coverage.

  • Remote areas may have weak or no coverage. We use satellite phones and radio communication for safety when necessary.

What kind of vaccination or medical prevention should I take before travel?

  • All medical travel-related questions for a specific location should be discussed with your doctor.

Are there different budget options available for expeditions?

  • Yes! Our expeditions cater to all adventure seekers while considering individual comfort preferences. We offer three budget options when is available.

  • Budget-Friendly Experience – Accommodations and meals are simple, and transportation is provided by a rugged expedition-suitable vehicle.
